The Catholic parish church of St. Cornelius and Cyprian is located in Probstried , a district of Dietmannsried in the Oberallgäu district in Bavaria . The church building is a listed building.

history

The oldest part of the church is the steeple, which probably dates back to the 13th century. The core of the church is late medieval and belonged to the prince monastery of Kempten from 1468 until the secularization . In the years 1666 to 1683 the church was redesigned and repaired. The nave was expanded in 1739/1740, and the stucco work and frescoes were also created in these years. An extensive restoration and renewal of the interior was carried out between 1877 and 1879. The church was restored again in 1948/1949 and 2017/18.

Building description

The single nave nave consists of four window axes and has a pressed barrel vault . Four columns on the west side of the nave support the double gallery . The drawn-in three-sided closed choir is connected by a round choir arch . This consists of two window axes and, like the nave, is closed with a barrel vault. There are arched windows in the nave and choir. The access to the church is on the west side through an arched door with a sandstone frame. The sign with access to the gallery dates from 1907 . The church tower made of tuff stone blocks is on the north wall of the nave. He is without plaster and with a gable roof covered. The sound arcades consist of round arched coupled openings. These are interrupted by octagonal intermediate columns made of tuff stone. There is a grimace on the north side at the top of the three-pass field. The sacristy is built on the east wall of the choir and covered with a hipped gable roof.

High altar

The high altar , as well as the side altars, date from 1877/1879 and were created by Wilhelm Engel from Babenhausen . The ceiling frescoes in the choir and nave date from 1740 and were exposed again in the course of the renovation in 1948/1949. The escape into Egypt is depicted in the choir and the death of St. Joseph in the nave. The stucco with foliage and ribbon work, as well as grid fields and flower hangings was renewed on the basis of old chipped stucco residues during the renovation in 1948/1949. Consisting of sandstone existing font is at the foot of 1767 referred. A carved group of figures depicting the baptism of Christ is on the lid of the baptismal font. The brotherhood poles with painted metal plates date from the 18th century. There are several wooden figures in the church. Thus, one in the nave Christoph Rodt attributed hl. Sebastian around 1620, a carrying pole with Immaculate from the middle of the 18th century, a crucifix from the 18th century and a baroque lecture cross . Several chandelier angels from the 18th century are in the sacristy. A dungeon Christ from the late 18th century is set up on the western outer facade in a brick gabled house. Two grave slabs for Pastor Franz Kopp († 1737) and Joseph Maur († 1751) made of sandstone are inserted on the outside of the south wall of the sacristy.
