The Catholic parish church of St. Cyriacus in Hümmel , a local community in the Ahrweiler district in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1871/72 and is now a listed building . The church is the holy Cyriakus ordained .

history

The church in Hümmel was first mentioned in 1114. The core of the old parish church, which was demolished in 1870, was probably built in the Romanesque period and later rebuilt in Gothic style. As early as 1745 this church was described as dilapidated . In the 1790s the tower was rebuilt and the occupation of the Rhineland during the French Revolution prevented the new building of the nave . In 1868 the church was closed by the building authorities due to the danger of parts of the vault falling down and a new building was proposed by the district architect August Clotten. He drafted the plans for the new church built in 1871/72. A collection in the Catholic parishes of the Rhine Province made it possible to finance the building.

architecture

The church was built as a three-aisled stepped hall with three bays . The middle yokes are recognizable as risalites . These have large tracery windows and are emphasized by a gable . The east-facing church closes with a choir closed on three sides , which is flanked by a chapel (left) and the sacristy (right).

In 1955, the three new choir windows were erected by the Binsfeld glass painting in Trier based on designs by Walter Bettendorf ( Konz ). After major renovations, the church was consecrated anew on August 13, 1972 by Auxiliary Bishop Alfred Kleinermeilert .

Furnishing

The Kiefer company from Trier supplied three wooden altars . The pulpit , the baptismal font , two confessionals and the Way of the Cross were added later.

The organ building company Stockhausen from Linz am Rhein delivered a mechanical organ with twelve registers in 1889 , which was replaced in the 1960s. In 2005 this instrument was again replaced by a new organ that was built by the organ building company Hubert Fasen (Oberbettingen). The purely mechanical instrument has 11 registers on the manual and pedal. The manual registers No. 3, 7, 9 are designed as bass / treble slides.
