St. George

St. Georg in Bippen is the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran. Bippen parish , which belongs to the Bramsche parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover .

Building history and description

Today's church was originally built in the 12th century as a Romanesque hall church with a three-bay nave and west tower made of boulders . A previous building probably existed as early as the 10th century.

In 1490 the church was changed in the Gothic style. The nave was raised with sandstone and the arched windows were enlarged in a pointed arch shape. On the east side a choir with a five- eighth end was added, the nave bays were equipped with ribbed vaults . In the north side there is a pointed arch portal . A sacristy was added to the north of the choir around 1700 .

Interior

The oldest piece in the church is the Romanesque baptismal font , which was made from Bentheim sandstone in the 13th century and is similar to that of St. George's Church in Badbergen . There are galleries on the north, south and east walls , of which the southern one is dated 1695. In the eastern gallery of 1767 by were Gerhard Georg Wessel made Rococo - Altar and the overlying organ of 1696 integrated. The pulpit also dates from the 18th century. Two chandeliers of brass are designated 1704 and 1733rd A bell in the tower dates from 1526.
