The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Kilian in Beckstein , a district of Lauda-Königshofen in the Main-Tauber district , is a branch church of the parish of St. Mauritius in Königshofen .

history

The Becksteiner Kilianskirche was built from 1914 to 1919. After the First World War , ten years passed since construction began until the church was finally consecrated on May 20, 1924. The tomb of Mertin Hund von Wenkheim indicates that there was already a medieval church in Beckstein. This tomb is on the inner wall of the current church, which was renovated in 2008. When Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Würzburg bought the church patronage of Königshofen, he finally also acquired the village of Beckstein. Echter also arranged for the church to be rebuilt . It has been proven since 1610 that Beckstein is a branch of the Königshofen parish. The church from the Echter era was judged to be too small and dilapidated in the 19th century . The church was demolished in 1913 by pastor Karl Schmidt and the new building began the following year. Subsequently, due to the First World War, it took ten years until the church was completed and finally could be inaugurated on May 20, 1924. This project was actively supported in many ways by the citizens of Beckstein with money, labor and donations of various items of equipment. The interior and exterior of the church were renovated from 1966 to 1968 with a completely new choir room design .

Furnishing

A targeted attempt was made to create a winegrowers' church, so that, for example, the choir windows by Sepp Biehler (1925–1973) show the winegrowers at work and branch up to the tabernacle column. A new Vleugels organ completed the equipment of the church in 1990. The church was last renovated in 2008, with the interior being painted in warm and friendly colors. The liturgical places in the choir room are complemented by a stone ambo .

Altars

On both side altars were the church patron Kilian and the vintner patron Urban, which were replaced in 1973 by a baroque Madonna and a St. Joseph figure from the former monastery property of Gerlachsheim .

Bells

The church received new consecrated bells in 1952 , as the old church bells had to be given for military armor.
