St. Laurentius (Oechsen)
The Evangelical Lutheran , listed church of St. Laurentius stands on the outskirts on the hillside of the walled cemetery in Oechsen , a community in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . The parish Oechsen belongs to the parish area Stadtlengsfeld-Gehaus-Oechsen in the parish of Bad Salzungen-Dermbach the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

From the medieval fortified church the 1508 built has choir tower obtained, which was changed 1586th In 1717, the lower stone floors of the tower received a slated octagonal half-timbered tower on which a Welsche dome sits, which is crowned with a tower ball . The nave , added in 1576, was demolished around 1800 as too small and replaced in 1801 by a new building with five window axes . The quarry stone masonry of the tower has corner stones , loopholes and ogival double windows. A small, beardless gaff head is on a stone at the southeast corner of the tower. The facade in the west has pilaster strips at the corners and a cornice . The rectangular portal is profiled and has classicist door leaves . The nave has two-story galleries and is covered with a wooden barrel vault, the coffering of which is merely painted on. On the former triumphal arch and on the walls of the windows there are still remains of the painted scrollwork . The wall, made up of a pulpit altar and the nine-part classicist organ front , forms the center of the church. Hidden behind the pulpit wall, the former choir on the lowest floor of the tower still has its late Gothic ribbed vault . The rectangular sacrament house framed with round bars from the 1st half of the 16th century with an attached cross from 1717 only serves as a staircase to the organ . The current painting of the interior was carried out in 1896. In 1983 the interior was restored.
