The old Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus in Neuried , a community in the Munich district , in the south-west of the state capital, was built on the site of a previous Romanesque building in the second half of the 15th century.

history

The base of the tower and parts of the nave walls have been preserved from the previous church from the late 13th century, originally consecrated to Mary . The upper floor of the tower and the choir were built in 1484, as indicated by the year on the inside of the choir arch . In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Gothic church building was redesigned several times . The nave was probably increased around 1752. The patronage of St. Nicholas of Myra has been documented since the middle of the 18th century . In the course of the restoration in the 1970s, the west gallery was renewed and a flat wooden ceiling was installed in the nave in place of the former barrel vault painted with baroque frescoes .

architecture

Exterior construction

The tower covered with a gable roof rises in the northern corner of the choir . It is structured by glare fields that are framed on the upper floor by a toothed frieze and a pointed arch frieze with crosses. Two ogival sound windows are cut under the tower clock . The two gables on the north and south sides of the tower were only added in 1890.

Console in the choir

The interior is a hall with a strongly drawn-in, five-sided closed choir, which is divided by pillars with shield arches . The choir is covered by a ribbed vault that rests on consoles carved with heads . The floral paintings on the vault were exposed again in 1955. Saints are depicted on the keystones , one keystone is decorated with the relief of Our Lady.

Furnishing

  • The main altar was created around 1650. The carved figure of the Madonna and Child, which is surrounded by a halo and stands on the crescent moon, is dated around 1500 - like the figures of St. Nicholas (left) and St. George (right).
  • The two side altars were probably made around 1708. The figure of St. Leonhard , the patron saint of cattle, in the middle of the left altar was created around 1520. The archangel Raphael , on the side of the altar, who protects Tobias , is like the figures on the right altar, the archangel Michael and the order's founder Benedict of Nursia , a work from the middle of the 18th century.
  • The crucifix and Our Lady of Sorrows in the choir date from the first half of the 18th century.
  • On the north wall of the nave there is a colored wooden sculpture of Pope Silvester I from the late 15th century.
  • The sculpture group Anna selbdritt , which was created around 1520, is also housed in a niche on the north side .
  • On the south wall of the nave, a votive picture of a farmer reminds of the sparing of his farm during the great fire in 1811.

Epitaph from 1589

epitaph

In the choir, an epitaph from 1589 commemorates the Spitzweck family, the owners of the Schäferei and Schwaige Boschetsried (Poschetsried), in the place of which the Fürstenrieder Castle was later built. The panel picture with an elaborately carved frame depicts the Good Shepherd , in the excerpt you can see God the Father enthroned above the clouds and holding the globe in his left hand. The family is shown in the picture below.
