history

The parish of Steinach originally belonged to the original parish of Brend . The current church was built on the site of a previous building in 1860. The late Gothic church tower is still preserved from the old church .

During various church renovations in the 19th and 20th centuries, old church decorations were lost, for example the historical paintings of the "Last Judgment" on the front wall in front of the choir , the pulpit from 1620, the high altar and the side altars . The Gothic tabernacle of the Lords of Bibra has been in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich since 1872 . But the Riemenschneider - crucifix survived the Royal Bavarian State raids in the Frankish cultural and church property in Steinach because it did not appear the royal Bavarian state officials as an artwork.

In 1945 the church was badly damaged and had to be rebuilt.
