St. Peter is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Thann ( Deanery Ansbach ) named after the Apostle Peter .

Parish

A chapel was built in 1058 and consecrated by the Eichstatt Bishop Gundekar II . St. Peter was probably originally a branch of St. Laurentius (Großenried) . Even before the Reformation, St. Peter was elevated to a parish. In 1565 the Lords of Crailsheim acquired patronage, and in 1566 the Reformation was introduced. From 1565 to 1586 the parish was connected to the parish church (Sommersdorf) , since 1632 permanently until today. In 1964 the patronage of the Lords of Crailsheim ended.

The parish includes the places Kallert , Kaudorf , Liebersdorf , Selingsdorf , Thann, Weidendorf and Winkel . At the beginning of the 1990s there were 366 church members, today (as of 2017) there are 320.

Church building

St. Peter was built in 1766 for 2,985 guilders. Only a relief of the coat of arms of the Lords of Thann (15th century) has been adopted from the previous buildings, which was walled in on the west side under the window. The nave measures 17 (north and south side) × 9 meters (E / W). It has three window axes on the south and north sides, each with two windows arranged one above the other: the lower one is a square arched window, the upper one is a high rectangular window, with the middle arched window on the north side being replaced by a arched portal with a coat of arms above it. The fourth window axis to the east has three windows arranged one above the other: the lower one is a square arched arch, the upper two rectangular windows. There is a tall rectangular window on the west side. On the east side, the five-storey tower is embedded in the middle, the base of which protrudes slightly over the east front. On the ground floor it has a square arched window, above it three high rectangular windows. The bell storey has beveled corners and stands out from the other storeys with a cornice. It has round-arched sound openings with dials on all sides and closes with an onion helmet. To the left and right of the tower, two tall rectangular windows are arranged above an arched portal. The nave ends with a hipped roof. On the north and south sides there are dormers above the first and fourth window axes .

The single-nave hall closes with a flat ceiling. Only the baptismal font (17th century) and an epitaph (Wolffgangus Dieterich von Krailsheim. Children's grave stone from 1606) have been taken over from the previous church. The entire interior was made around 1770 and is in the baroque style. The first gallery has moved in on the north, south and west sides. On the west gallery there is an organ from the 18th century, which was probably made by the organ builder Gepinger (Rothenburg). It has a five-part brochure with rocail mesh panels. The second gallery is completely drawn in on the east side and partially drawn in on the south and north sides. The pulpit is above the altar table on the east wall. Like the sound cover, it is four-sided with slightly protruding parapet areas between cornered, paneled pilaster strips.
