history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 888. In this document, the Eichstatt Bishop Erchanbald gives the property of the dissolved Herriedener Benedictine Abbey of St. Salvator , to which Thann also belonged, to fief. In 1087 a Werner von Thann is mentioned. Until 1517 the Lords of Thann had their seat there and exercised the local rule. Subsequently, the barons of Crailsheim, who were the imperial knights, became the landowners.

Thann was in the Fraisch district of the Eichstättischen Oberamt Wahrberg-Herrieden . At the end of the 18th century the place consisted of 30 properties. The Thann manor held the village and community rulership as well as the land rulership over all properties .

In 1806 Thann came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the community edict, Thann was assigned to the Sommersdorf tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Sommersdorf , which was founded a little later . With the second community edict (1818) Thann became a rural community to which Winkel belonged. It was subordinate to the Herrieden regional court in terms of administration and jurisdiction and to the Herrieden rent office in terms of financial administration ( renamed Herrieden tax office in 1920 , from 1950: Ansbach tax office ). From 1862 Thann was administered by the Feuchtwangen district office (renamed the Feuchtwangen district in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Herrieden, since 1880 district court Herrieden , 1950 District Court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 3.263 km². On January 1, 1971, the community was incorporated into Bechhofen as part of the regional reform .

From 1903 to 1966 there was a stop on the Leutershausen-Wiedersbach-Bechhofen railway line on the outskirts of Winkel .

“Thann, a village with an old castle located in the Eichstättische Fraischbezirke of the Oberamt Wahrberg, one hour south under Herrieden an der Altmühl between Weidendorf and Selgendorf. This village, which has around 30 households, stretches from the Altmühl west on the fairly flat slope to the foot of the hill, where the Thanner and Bürgerholz stands. Between this and the opposite mountain on which the Hardholz stands, a stream comes down from Kaudorf, which runs through this village and at the end of which falls into the Altmühl.
The old three-story high castle, now a residence for the owls, stands very sadly in the square, and the trees protruding in between give it an even gloomy appearance. Not far away is the three-story church, formerly a branch of Rauenzell. At that time there is a Protestant pastor there, and the Protestant subjects of Selgendorf, Kaudorf and Kallart are parish there. This castle and village belongs to the lords of Creilsheim, with all their affiliations and affiliations, who hold such fiefs from the principality of Eichstätt. After their extinction falls [Sp. 519] all reported princes home.
The named castle was once the seat and ancestral home of the von Thann family. One of these is right at the entrance to the cross corridor of the Herrieder collegiate church and is carved in life-size armor in the tombstones placed on the wall. Werner von Thann also appears in the comparison between the Eichstätt bishop Ulrichs  I and the abbess Frideruna in Geißenfeld because of the tithe in Geimersheim in 1087 and Konrad the younger von Thann in the comparison as a witness that the Eichstätt bishop Heinrich  IV , a Count of Wirtemberg, with Count Ludwig von Oettingen over the meadows Wiesenthau and Aichach near Ohrnbau, but in 1165 one of Thann before the tournament which Duke Guelf of Bavaria in Zurich held.
