geography

The village lies on a flat hilly plain on the Gartenwiesgraben ( called Ellenbachgraben in the lower reaches ), which is a right tributary of the Wieseth , and lies with the Röttenbach in the east in a clearing that is surrounded by forest (in the north Brandlach, in the southeast Schwarzholz called). The Stockfeld corridor area borders directly to the northeast.

The district road AN 54 leads past Weihermühle to Königshofen adHeide to state road 2220 (2 km west) or to state road 2221 near Röttenbach (1 km east). A community road leads to Rottnersdorf (1.3 km north).

history

The Herrieden Collegiate Foundation achieved these claims in 1058 through a bequest from the Provost and Archdeacon Heysso zu Herrieden.

Birkach was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Wassertrüdingen . The village and community rule was exercised by the Eichstättischen Stiftskapitel Herrieden . Towards the end of the 18th century there were 12 properties in Birkach (7 whole, half and quarter courtyards, 5 estates) and a community pastor's house. The Herrieden monastery chapter was the sole landlord of all properties. From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Wassertrüdingen .

As a result of the community edict, Birkach was assigned to the tax district formed in 1809 and the rural community of Unterkönigshofen . In 1818 the rural community of Birkach was formed, to which the towns of Burgstallmühle , Fröschau , Heinersdorf , Röttenbach and Rottnersdorf belonged. It was subordinate to the Wassertrüdingen Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and to the Wassertrüdingen Rent Office in financial administration . In 1870 the community was renamed after Heinersdorf . On July 1, 1971, Birkach was incorporated into Bechhofen as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
