Reichenau is a district of the market Bechhofen in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia ( Bavaria ).

geography

The Esbach rises southwest of the village and feeds a series of ponds in its further course and flows two kilometers further north at Sauerbach as a right tributary into the Erlbach ( called Hechelschutzbach in the lower reaches ), which in turn is a right tributary of the Altmühl . The Brand forest area borders in the south-west, while the Lassenau and Baderschlag forest areas a little further to the west. In the east the area borders the low field.

The district road AN 54 leads to Sachsbach (1.8 km southeast) or to Lettenmühle (1 km north). Communal roads lead to Kaudorf (1.5 km east) and Deffersdorf (2 km south).

history

In the first half of the 14th century, the Eichstatt Prince-Bishop Heinrich V acquired the place. Originally there was also a castle in the place, but it was torn down in the early 15th century under the Eichstätt Prince-Bishop Friedrich IV . The stones were used to rebuild Herrieden Castle .

The place was in the Fraisch district of the Eichstättischen Oberamt Wahrberg-Herrieden . By the end of the 18th century there were 10 properties. The village and township government and the manorial system had the box office Herrieden held.

With the community edict (early 19th century) Reichenau was assigned to the tax district and the rural community of Sachsbach . As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Reichenau was incorporated into Bechhofen on July 1, 1971.
