geography

The village is located on the Hechelschutzbach (formerly also called Sauerbach), a right tributary of the Altmühl . It is surrounded by a flat, hilly plain consisting of arable land and grassland with a few trees. A community road leads to Thann to the district road AN 55 (2.5 km east) or past Sauerbach to Leibelbach to the AN 54 (2 km north-west).

history

Originally only the part north of the Hechelschutzbach was called Winn, while the part south of it was called Mackew. Both places were probably founded in the 10th century. The place name Winn is derived from the term Gewann , which was used to designate a hallway shape.

The place belonged in the Holy Roman Empire to the Hochstift Eichstätt and was subordinate to the Eichstättian Oberamt Wahrberg-Herrieden . Towards the end of the 18th century there were twelve households, nine of which were subject to the Eichstätt monastery, two to the lords of Crailsheim zu Sommersdorf and Thann and one to Ansbach . In the course of the secularization and thus the dissolution of the bishopric, the place was assigned to Bavarian and the Herrieden district court in 1806 .

With the Gemeindeedikt (early 19th century) Winn was the control district Heuberg and Rural community Lammelbach assigned. After renouncing patrimonial jurisdiction on April 14, 1848, the three subjects of the Freiherrn von Crailsheim also came to the Herrieden district court.

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Winn was incorporated into Herrieden on July 1, 1971.
