St. Laurentius is an Evangelical Lutheran church named after St. Laurentius in Flachslanden ( Deanery Ansbach ).

Parish

The patronage exercised the Nikolausstift in Spalt . St. Laurentius is one of the older parishes in this area. It originally had the branches St. Maria (Obersulzbach) (until 1357), Parish Church (Mitteldachstetten) (until 14th century), St. Kilian and Kunigunde (Berglein) (until 14th century) and St. Bartholomäus (Unterstbibert) (until 1441).

In 1528 the Reformation was introduced in Flachslanden. In 1536 there was Hieronymus Beuschel, the first pastor trained in Protestant theology. The principality of Brandenburg-Ansbach took over church sovereignty and thus patronage . Since then the parish has belonged to the newly founded dean's office in Leutershausen . As a result of the Thirty Years' War, from 1634 to 1666, the pastor from Flachslanden had to take care of Unterbibert.

Around 1800 the parish included the villages of Birkenfels , Borsbach , Ebenhof , Hummelhof , cellars , Kettenhöfstetten and Rosenbach , Ruppersdorf and Wippenau . St. Laurentius has been part of the Ansbach deanery since 1810. In 1839 the Ebenhof was re-parished to St. Margaretha (Rügland) . After 1840, but before 1861, Ruppersdorf was also repared to Rügland.

The originally purely Catholic towns of Boxau , Hainklingen , Kemmathen , Lockenmühle , Neustetten , Sondernohe and Virnsberg are also parish under St. Laurentius.

Today the parish has 1,400 parishioners.

Church building

The Romanesque tower basement probably comes from the original church, which was first mentioned by name in 1294. The three upper floors were in the 14./15. Built in the 15th century from quarry sandstone in the Gothic style . They are divided by cornices. The third floor has two-part tracery windows on all sides , the bell floor has round-arched sound openings on all sides with a dial underneath. The christening bell dates from the 14th century, a bronze bell from 1826. The remaining bells had to be given in during the Second World War and were replaced by three steel bells in 1952. The tower is finished with an eight-sided pointed helmet and is 45 meters high. The 5/8 choir was built according to the inscription stone well in 1465 in late Gothic style. The arched windows on the north, south and east sides were only broken into during the renovation in 1719. The nave was rebuilt in 1719 in margrave style according to plans by Carl Friedrich von Zocha . It has three axes on the north and south sides with arched windows, of which the middle one is slightly smaller, and underneath there is a roofed rectangular portal with volute consoles. On the axis to the choir is the tower on the north side, on the south side there is an arched window. The west side also has a roofed rectangular portal with volute consoles, over which a round arch portal. The triangular gable with volute brackets swinging to the side has a round window. All sides of the nave and the choir have rusticated corner pilaster strips and other plaster structures. The nave has a gable roof hewn to the east.

On the north, west and south sides of the single-nave hall with a mirror vault , two-storey wooden galleries have been drawn in on Tuscan columns. On the east side the gallery is connected to the choir by a round arch arcade. To the right of this is the wooden pulpit, richly decorated with flowers and acanthus carvings. The eight-sided basket is carried by a figure of Moses . On the front there are reliefs of Jesus and the four evangelists . The risen Christ stands on the eight-sided sound cover . To the right of the arcade is the baptismal font with an angel carrying the baptismal bowl. Above the arcade there is a margrave coat of arms held by angels. The choir has a reticulated vault. In the choir is the marbled and gilded altar with the structure of an order of twisted Corinthian columns with an open segment gable and four seated angels. On each side, it is framed by two angels surrounded by acanthus carvings. The middle field shows the crucified , above the dove of the Holy Spirit and God the Father . The entire interior was made around 1719. A wooden figure of St. Lawrence on the left side of the choir arch was probably made around 1390.
