history

The place was first mentioned by name in 1242 as "Cottenhouestetin". The defining word of the place name is probably the personal name Cotto. In terms of folk etymology, however, the place name was associated with chains which, by order of the Margrave of Ansbach, were stretched around the village during the Thirty Years' War and thus saved it from destruction. In fact, Kettenhöfstetten was also destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. Nevertheless, this declaration resulted in the change of the place name to "Kettenhöffstetten" (first attested in 1732).

On June 7, 1242, the Counts of Hohenlohe donated some of the town's goods to the Heilsbronn Monastery . In 1509 the monastery acquired most of the farms and goods. 16 properties were deserted during the Thirty Years War.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 20 properties in Kettenhöfstetten (1 half-yard, 13 goods, 1 small farm, 1 half-good, 3 empty houses , 1 forge). The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth city bailiff's office in Markt Erlbach to a limited extent. If necessary, it had to be delivered to the Ansbach court box office in Brandenburg-Ansbach . The village and community rulership was held by the Neuhof caste office in Brandenburg-Bayreuth . All properties had the caste office Neuhof as landlord . In addition to these properties there were also communal buildings (shepherd's house, breaker's house ). From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

In 1806, Kettenhöfstetten came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, Kettenhöfstetten was assigned to the Flachslanden tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community Flachslanden, founded in 1811 . On September 13, 1827 the formation of the rural community Kettenhöfstetten was approved, to which Borsbach , Rangenmühle and Ruppersdorf belonged. The municipality was under the administration and jurisdiction of the district court of Ansbach and the financial administration of the Ansbach Rent Office ( renamed the Ansbach Tax Office in 1920 ). In 1836, Birkenfels was reassigned from Brünst to Kettenhöfstetten. From 1862 on, Kettenhöfstetten was administered by the Ansbach district office (renamed the Ansbach district in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court of Ansbach until 1870, 1870-1879 city and district court Ansbach , since 1880 district court Ansbach . The municipality had an area of 7.048 km². On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Kettenhöfstetten was reintegrated into the Flachslanden market.
