history
The place was first mentioned by name in 1275 as "Kemenaten". This place name is particularly widespread in southern Germany. It is derived from the Latin word "calminata" and originally referred to a room with a fireplace .
Towards the end of the 18th century, Kemmathen belonged to the municipality of Virnsberg. In Kemmathen there were four properties (1 eighth yard, 1 tenth yard, 1 drip house , 1 house). The high court exercised the Obervogteiamt Virnsberg . The Teutonic Order Coming Virnsberg held the village and community rulership and the lordship over all properties .
As part of the community edict, Kemmathen was assigned to the Virnsberg tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Virnsberg, founded in 1811 . On May 1, 1978 this was incorporated into the Flachslanden market as part of the regional reform .
