St. Petrus (Baldenhain)
The Evangelical Lutheran branch church St. Petrus is located in Baldenhain , a district of Großenstein in the Greiz district in Thuringia . The subsidiary church belongs to the parish Großenstein-Soon Park in the parish area Großenstein-Soon Park in the church district Altenburger Land of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
The place and church were first mentioned in a document on June 8, 1323, together with a gentleman from Baldenhain. In 1381 the place was under the Nöbdenitz manor . The small Romanesque stone church is a plastered masonry building with corner pilasters . The retracted choir tower has a curved hood , crowned with a lantern . A semicircular apse with a dome adjoins it. The tower had in the meantime received an octagonal top, which increased it by about a third. The top was later removed again and today the hood sits directly on the tower. Originally there were two bells in the tower . Only the larger of the two bells from 1493 remains. It bears the inscription : Anno dni mcccclxxxxiii sancte petre ora pro nobis deum amen. Ibs. (In the Lord's year 1493 Saint Peter prays for our God. Amen.)
The nave , built in the 16th century and covered with a hipped gable roof , was later shortened and the windows changed. Column biforias are located on the south, east and north sides of the choir tower .
The capitals on the windows in the north and south are provided with corner masks, the Romanesque fighters on the triumphal arch between the nave and the apse with a plate and bevel.
In the 18th century the interior was decorated with folk paintings. The parapet paintings of the three-sided galleries show the adoration of the kings , the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus .
In the apse there is a small pulpit altar with a polygonal pulpit . The corner pillars are provided with depictions of Jesus and the Evangelists , the predella with the depiction of the Lord's Supper .
The church was renovated in the 1980s.
