The Catholic branch church St. Remigius in Lappach , a district of the municipality of Sankt Wolfgang in the Upper Bavarian district of Erding , is a late Gothic church building from the 15th century. The church is consecrated to St. Remigius , the bishop of Reims in the 5th / 6th centuries. Century, which, according to tradition, baptized the Merovingian king Clovis I around the year 500 and thus initiated the Christianization of the Franks . In the choir of the church are murals obtained from the construction period. The Remigius Church is one of the protected architectural monuments in Bavaria.

history

Today's church was built around 1420 on the site of a previous building, the construction of which can be traced back to the 8th or 9th century. The previous church was probably during the ox war , the dispute between Heinrich XVI. , the Duke of Bavaria-Landshut , and the county of Haag . After 1467 the interior was vaulted.

architecture

Exterior construction

In the northern corner of the choir stands the noticeably high tower, structured by cornices , glare fields and arched friezes, which is crowned by corner pieces and a pointed helmet. The lower floors go back to the previous Romanesque building.

The interior consists of a single nave and a strongly recessed, polygonal closed choir . The nave and choir are covered by net vaults, the ribs of which rest on consoles . The vault keystones are decorated with coats of arms and depictions of two bishops. The nave is divided into deeply cut wall pillars with services in front of them , between which chapel-like rooms with pointed arcades and net vaults open up. The divider arches rest on consoles that are sculpted as busts with banners in their hands.

Wall paintings in the choir

The late Gothic wall paintings in the choir were exposed in 1939 and 1971. The lower part of the wall is painted with a surrounding drapery. Scenes from the Passion are depicted in the strips above: Jesus on the Mount of Olives, Jesus being arrested and interrogated, Jesus carries the cross, Jesus appears to the Apostle Thomas after his resurrection . The door to the tower is framed by a tendril painting.

Four apostles can be seen in the upper picture above the passion scenes . On the right pillar of the choir arch there is a larger than life representation of St. Christopher .
