history

The Wermerichshausen parish was founded in 1180. In the 10th or 11th century there was a Romanesque church in the village. The nave was built on their remains in 1601. The choir was built in 1710 at the same time as the nave was being redesigned. The church tower was renewed in the neo-baroque style in the first half of the 19th century after a lightning strike .

Description and equipment

The nave has three window axes, the eastern choir three windows. The windows have segment arcs. The three-story tower is on the south side. The sacristy is built on the north side. The martyrdom of St. Vitus is depicted on the high altar in the Rococo style (around 1750) . Next to it are figures of Saint Lawrence and Sebastian . The side altars with twisted columns were created in 1710, as was the pulpit with the four evangelists between likewise twisted columns. The font in front of the left side altar dates from 1597. The organ is on the western gallery .
