Stacey Rout (born January 16, 1983 in Queenstown ) is a former New Zealand ice hockey player and current coach who played for the Southern Stampede and the Canterbury Red Devils in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League and was New Zealand champion with both teams. He is currently the coach of the New Zealand national team .

Career

Stacey Rout began his career as a hockey player in the youth division of Southern Stampede in his hometown of Queenstown . With the founding of the New Zealand Ice Hockey League in 2005, he was accepted into the semi-professional team with which he became New Zealand champions in 2005 and 2006. In 2012 he moved to the Canterbury Red Devils from Christchurch and was able to win his third championship title with them. Then he ended his career.

International

In the junior division, Rout stood on the ice for New Zealand at the U18 World Championships in 2000 in Asia-Oceania Division 2 and in 2001 in Asia-Oceania Division 1.

With the men's national team , the defender took part in qualifying for Division II of the World Cup in 2002 . He also played at the World Championships of Division III in 2003 , 2007 and 2009 and Division II in 2004 , 2005 , 2006 and 2008 .

Coaching career

Rout began working as a coach during his playing career. He was the player- coach of the Canterbury Red Devils for several years and worked there as an assistant and head coach until 2014 after his active career. He has also been working for the New Zealand Association since 2011. Initially working in the youth field, he acted as assistant coach for the New Zealand men's selection at the 2015 and 2016 World Championships . At the 2017 World Cup he was head coach of the national team for the first time.
