The Staden is a recreation area in Saarbrücken - St. Johann on the right bank of the Saar . The park-like grounds with lawns, paths, playgrounds and the beer garden at Ulanenpavillon between the Bismarckbrücke and cogeneration Roman Bridge and was built in the 1908th The historic elements of the city such as the embankment wall, the baluster parapet, the stairs and pavilions by the architect Heinrich Güth as well as the park-like design are under monument protection . The Uhlan memorial was erected in memory of those who died in the Franco-Prussian War of the Uhlan regiment “Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden” (Rheinisches) No. 7 on June 1, 1913 in front of the former town hall of Saarbrücken, today's Old Town Hall , on Schlossplatz built. In 1957 it was first restored and then moved to the Staden. The design came from the sculptor Fritz Klimsch , the casting was carried out by the Berlin bronze foundry Hermann Noack in Berlin-Friedenau . It is kept in an antique- classical style. From the Staden you have a view of the A 620 city motorway on the other bank of the Saar, which causes noise. Below this expressway, a 450-meter-long graffiti area was legalized on the concrete wall between the motorway and the towpath , which bears the name 4560 and is considered one of the largest contiguous legal spray areas in Germany. It was painted by internationally known artists at meetings (2002, 2005 and 2017).
