history

The roots of the water supply in Neumarkt go back to the Middle Ages. In 1427 the magistrate bought land on the Fuchsberg and channeled the spring water there into the city via a wooden pipe. It got into several wells and was then available to the citizens. The foundations of today's water supply system were not built until the end of the 19th century.

As far as street lighting was concerned, the alleys of Neumarkt were almost pitch black at night at the beginning of the 19th century. Only a few important points such as B. the entrances to the town hall were sparsely illuminated by the light of the lard-powered lanterns. In 1830 the city fathers decided to provide all streets with lanterns. Lantern lighters were responsible for operation, maintenance and care. Almost five decades later, thought was given to the introduction of gas lighting for the first time. In 1888 it was decided to build a gasworks, which went into operation a short time later, and on September 16, 1889, 91 gas street lamps burned for the first time. From 1924, the gas lanterns were increasingly being replaced by electric street lighting. In the absence of gas - the gasworks was completely destroyed by an air raid in 1945 - they were not reactivated after the end of the war. Electricity has been gaining in importance since the 1920s. The Neumarkt low-voltage local network went into operation on August 23, 1924. But electricity was not only becoming more and more important for lighting. Above all, the supply of electricity facilitated the operation of machines and devices of all kinds. Not only industry and commerce, but increasingly households too, demanded a supply of electricity.

The waterworks was merged with the gasworks to form the municipal gas and waterworks in 1894. 45 years later, this merged with the electricity company to form the municipal company “Stadtwerke Neumarkt”. As a result, uniform planning, control and implementation for the electricity, gas and water supply began in 1939.

In addition to the original core areas of electricity, gas and water, other sectors have been added over the years:

In 1988 the Neumarkt outdoor pool was taken over in connection with a block-type thermal power station. The block-type thermal power station (CHP) enables the heat generated during power generation to be used to heat the pool water and to supply heat.

With the purchase and presentation of three e-mobiles on Rathausplatz, the city and Stadtwerke Neumarkt set the first signs on May 4, 2011 as part of Agenda 21 on the subject of electromobility in Neumarkt. Just three months later, on August 4, 2011 of the same year, the first public electricity charging station went into operation. There are currently 20 charging stations in operation throughout the city and the surrounding area. On September 1, 2017, a network-wide tariff system for charging infrastructure for e-mobility was introduced within the Franken + charging network.

In 2013, the go-ahead was given to expand a high-performance fiber optic network.

The groundbreaking for the new all-year-round swimming pool, Schlossbad, took place in spring 2017 and is expected to open in early 2021.

Data center

With the operation of a data center , Stadtwerke Neumarkt has been providing external municipal energy providers with secure data management and data processing since 2008 . The data center now looks after ten municipal utilities. In addition to providing ERP software and hardware, billing services can also be provided for partners.

Public transport

The Neumarkt city bus is another division of Stadtwerke Neumarkt. With its 12 vehicles, it serves a route network of 143 kilometers on 13 lines and around 150 stops in the Neumarkt urban area. Since October 2016, the line network and the bus routes can be followed interactively and in real time via a portal.

warmth

With the heating service business field, individually tailored heating performance packages are offered as part of a heating contract. The company supplies around 1,300 households in the Neumarkt urban area and the Neumarkt district . Since 2016, several municipal buildings in the city of Neumarkt have also been supplied with heat via a decentralized local heating network . The entire city quarter " Neuen Markt " in Neumarkt is also supplied with heat by Stadtwerke Neumarkt. The heat generation mostly takes place via combined heat and power plants (CHP), which are operated with climate-neutral biogas . In the CHP units used by the municipal utilities, in addition to the required heat, electricity is produced by means of combined heat and power, which is fed into the local network. This intelligent, decentralized energy generation implements the energy turnaround locally and helps to make supra-regional transmission lines, the so-called "monster routes", less necessary.

outdoor pool

The open-air swimming pool on Seelstraße, operated by the municipal utilities, is known beyond the borders of the district. During the annual operation in summer from May to September, there is a 50-meter-long swimmer's pool with an adjacent diving area , an adventure pool with two slides, numerous water games and a wild water channel, as well as a children's paddling pool with water toys. The temperatures in all pools are between 25 ° and 30 ° Celsius, depending on the weather. The large play and sunbathing areas invite you to linger. There is also a restaurant within the premises .

Year-round pool - SCHLOSSBAD

Completion of the year-round pool on the site of the existing outdoor pool is planned for the beginning of 2021. An eight-lane sports pool (25 m × 20 m) with adjoining diving equipment (1 and 3 meters) and a water climbing facility, a course pool (12.5 m × 10 m) with lifting floor, a children's pool / water play area (approx. 100 m²) With a slide, splash animals, boat canal and floor jets, an adventure pool (approx. 268 m²) with waterfall, flow channel, floor bubbler, massage jets, neck showers and an outdoor brine pool (100 m²) with bubble beds and massage jets can be used all year round. The extensive sauna area with three indoor saunas (Finnish infusion sauna, bio and soft sauna, herbal sauna) and two outdoor saunas (Kelo sauna, themed sauna) as well as a steam bath is complemented by three sauna pools (revitalization pool, Kneipp pool, plunge pool) and a cooling zone and several Rest rooms and areas added. Bathing and sauna guests can look forward to a harmonious range of restaurants.
