Life

Stefan A. Schumer attended the Polytechnic School in Mödling and studied from 1981 to 1988 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna at the master school ( institute ) for architecture under Gustav Peichl . During his studies he worked with Ernst Anton Plischke on the processing of his archives and for five years on the book "Ein Leben mit Architektur" (Löcker Verlag, Vienna, 1989).

In 1991, together with Gustav Peichl and Walter Achatz, he won the competition for the construction of the new test building for the Münchner Kammerspiele . The renovation of the Münchner Kammerspiele was completed in 2001 after more than ten years of planning and construction by the architects. Also in Munich, together with the Munich architect Franz Hölzl, he made the drafts for the reconstruction of the Schrannenhalle as well as the construction of a new front building on the same. Due to disputes between the leaseholder (City of Munich) and the investor (Deutsche Beamtenvorsorge Immobilienholding AG), it was ultimately not carried out in accordance with the planning.

In 2004, Stefan A. Schumer developed the master plan for the central waste management on the former Waagner-Biro site on behalf of the City of Vienna , but this was not implemented.

Schumer has been a member of the Austrian Society for Architecture , the Central Association of Architects in Austria and the Hesse Chamber of Architects and Town Planners since 1992 . He is also a member of the Künstlerhaus Wien and the Society of Friends of the Fine Arts. In 1995 and 1996 he taught as a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , from 2004 to 2006 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and in 2009 at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne . Since 2012 he has been teaching as a visiting professor at the Academy of Arts Sarajevo .

In 2015, Stefan A. Schumer was joined by Luciano Benetton and Peter Noever to participate in the Germany, mon amour! invited to be part of the worldwide Imago Mundi project - world archive of art of the Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche. Goal of the archive Germany, mon amour! is to present a selection of over two hundred authoritative artists, architects and designers.
