Stefan Geilen

Stefan Ulrich Geilen (born January 17, 1962 in Olsberg ) is a Brigadier General of the Army of the German Armed Forces .

Military career

Training and first uses

Geilen joined the Bundeswehr in 1981 as an officer candidate with the 471 Jägerbataillon in Bexbach . He then completed a degree in economics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . From 1986 to 1991 he was used as platoon leader and company commander in Jägerbataillon 67 in Breitenburg . This was followed by a position as a lecture director in the lone fighter training at the air landing and air transport school in Altenstadt . From 1994 to 1996 Geilen completed general staff training at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

From 1996 Geilen was employed as staff officer G4 in the staff of Airborne Brigade 26 in Saarlouis . In 1997 he held this post as staff officer G3 in the German contingent SFOR on an international assignment, he also headed the Tactical Operations Center during the military evacuation operation Operation Libelle in Albania . In 1998 Geilen was transferred to the 1st German-Dutch Corps in Münster , where he was employed as a staff officer in the G3 Operations department . In 2000 he was employed as a staff officer in the Federal Ministry of Defense . From 2002 to 2004 Geilen was in command of the 353 Hunter Training Battalion in Hammelburg . This was followed by a two-year assignment as a staff officer G3 further development at the infantry school and a further two-year assignment as a department head in the Office for Army Development in Cologne . In 2006 Geilen returned to the 1st German-Dutch Corps as Assistant Chief of Staff G5 Plans and Policy . During this time he played a leading role in the planning of the NRF 10 . From 2009 Geilen was head of division in the armed forces office in Bonn . From 2010 to 2013 Geilen was Chief of Staff in the Special Operations Division in Stadtallendorf . During this time in 2011 Geilen was also deputy leader of TF PEGASUS during the military evacuation operation in Libya . This was followed in 2013 as a head of division in the planning department in the Federal Ministry of Defense.

Service as a general

From December 2014 to March 2015 Geilen was the commander of Airborne Brigade 26. On April 1, 2015, it was reclassified (with the involvement of parts of the sister unit, Airborne Brigade 31 ) to Airborne Brigade 1 , of which Geilen became 1st Commander. On July 6, 2016, he handed this command over to Brigadier General Dirk Faust . In August 2016, Geilen became Chief of Staff at the 1st German-Dutch Corps , while he was promoted to Brigadier General as a substitute for Brigadier General Dieter Meyerhoff (who was on assignment abroad for several months in Afghanistan during this time). On July 1, 2017, Geilen became Deputy Chief of Staff Assistance and Influence at the Eurocorps in Strasbourg . Since October 2019 he has been employed in the Office for Army Development in Cologne .
