Stefan Regmunt (born June 20, 1951 in Krasnystaw in the Lublin Voivodeship , Poland ) is a Polish Roman Catholic theologian and bishop emeritus of Zielona Góra-Gorzów .

Life

He attended elementary school in his hometown. In 1965 he moved with his parents to Jedlina-Zdrój in Lower Silesia . After graduating from high school, he entered the seminary of the Archdiocese of Breslau . Interrupted by military service, he studied at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Wroclaw and was on 29 May 1976, Wrocław Cathedral by Metropolitan Henryk Roman Cardinal Gulbinowicz for priests ordained. Initially active in the parish ministry, he studied psychology at the Catholic University of Lublin from 1981 . From 1986 to 1992 he was Prefect and Vice Rector of the Metropolitan Seminary in Wroclaw. With the establishment of the diocese of Legnica (dt .: Liegnitz ) in 1992 he was incardinated in the local clergy . Bishop Tadeusz Rybak appointed Stefan Regmunt as the first rector of his seminary in Legnica in March . He was a lecturer in the seminary and the theological college in Legnica and at the Pontifical Theological Faculty in Wroclaw. From 1992 to 1994 he was director of the catechetical school in Legnica. On November 17, 1993, Pope John Paul II gave him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

On December 3, 1994, the Pope appointed him auxiliary bishop in Legnica and titular bishop of Castellum Medianum . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on January 6, 1995 in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Co-consecrators were the official of the papal secretariat of state Giovanni Battista Cardinal Re and the secretary of the college of cardinals , Jorge María Cardinal Mejía . His episcopal motto is: " Servire in caritate " (to serve with love).

On December 29, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Zielona Góra-Gorzów. The solemn introduction to his new diocese took place on January 19, 2008 in the St. Mary's Cathedral (Mariendom) in Gorzów Wielkopolski ( German Landsberg an der Warthe ) and on January 26, 2008 in the St. Hedwig's co- cathedral in Zielona Góra ( German Grünberg i. Silesia ) instead.

In the Polish Bishops' Conference Regmunt was chairman of the Working Group for Health Service (CEP). On January 5, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as a member of the Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral Care .

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on November 23, 2015.
