Stefan Zekorn (born October 3, 1959 in Datteln ) is auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster .

Life

Stefan Zekorn's father came from the parish of Groß Purden in Warmia and his mother from Ratibor in Silesia . After graduating from high school Petrinum in Recklinghausen, Stefan Zekorn studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . On October 8, 1984 in Rome, through Joachim Cardinal Meisner, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Münster .

From 1985 to 1987 Zekorn was chaplain in the parish of St. Laurentius in Warendorf . He was then from 1987 to 1990 personal secretary and chaplain of the Bishop of Münster. In addition, in 1987 Zekorn was appointed vicar at the St. Paulus Cathedral in Münster and promoter iustitae at the Episcopal Office in Münster. In 1990 Zekorn became a subsidiary in the parish of St. Ludgerus in Münster-Albachten . In 1992 he was at the Westphalian Wilhelms University for doctor of theology doctorate . From 1992 to 2006, Zekorn was spiritual at the Collegium Borromaeum , the seminary of the diocese of Münster, responsible for the spiritual training and support of theology students. From 1992 to 1994 he was also ceremonial at Münster Cathedral. In 2006 Zekorn became pastor at the Marienbasilika in Kevelaer , rector of the pilgrimage and non-resident cathedral capitular at Münster cathedral.

On December 3, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . as titular bishop of Aquae Albae in Mauretania and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster. Zekorn was born on 13 February 2011 at the Münster Cathedral by Bishop Felix Genn bishop consecrated ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Limburg, Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst , and the Bishop of Essen, Franz-Josef Overbeck . As regional bishop, Zekorn is responsible for the city dean's office in Münster and the district dean's offices in Coesfeld (since 2017) and Warendorf. He is also the episcopal commissioner for the universal church and resident cathedral chapter.

In the German Bishops' Conference he has been a member of the World Church Commission since 2011 . He was also a member of the Faith Commission (2011-2017), the sub-commission for scientific tasks in the universal church area with responsibility for the scientific working group for universal church tasks (2011-2016) and the sub-commission for development issues (especially MISEREOR) (2016-2018).
