geography

course

From the area of the same name, the brook bears the name Steinbach. This flows into the narrow Steinbachtal, where one suspects the former location of the Menzenmühle. There the Roßbach joins from the right . A few hundred meters further on , a plaque on a rock face by the stream, the so-called "Jahnfelsen" , honors Jahn, the father of gymnastics .

At the lower end of the Steinbach valley is the "Teschenhöhle" . It is the remains of a quarry where basalt was quarried . This effluent rock filled a volcanic vent that was formed around 43 million years ago. The eruption penetrated a layer of red sandstone that had not yet been removed here .

In Kleinostheim the Steinbach is now completely piped and flows into the Main not far from the truck tank farm .
