The Steinbach is a 7 km long tributary of the Murach in the Schwandorf district in Upper Palatinate in Bavaria, with its left main upper course, Siechenbach, as far as the town of Oberviechtach . It rises in the Siebental north of Nunzenried , between Lind train station and Tressenried , flows in a south-westerly direction and flows south of Niedermurach into the Murach.

course

The Siechenbach arises in the moist meadows of the Siebental east of Oberviechtach on the slope north of Nunzenried . It feeds there from several meadow drainage pipes and also from the drains of some fish ponds. It flows first northeast, then after an arch southwest past the Grenzland barracks, after which it receives a first nameless tributary from the north, which exceeds its own length here, but noticeably less contributes to the sub-catchment area. After another south-west run, accompanied by Schönseer Strasse (St 2159), past the Käfermühle to approximately Nunzenriederstrasse in Oberviechtach, after about three kilometers another, quite short and apparently nameless stream joins from the right from the area of the old town, which is mostly in this runs underground. From here the body of water is called Steinbach . It then runs through the formerly so-called sick meadows , which today are largely overbuilt with a settlement; the name of the street "In den Siechenwiesen" still reminds of the old toponym.

After crossing the B 22 at the lower town limits , he passes the Knau mill and then the stone mill . West of the stone mill, the Steinbach leaves on a breakthrough route between 558  m above sea level. NHN high Obermuracher Berg in the south and the 536  m above sea level. NHN high Mehlbügel in the north the Oberviechtach basin and after the narrow one enters the Niedermurach basin. Niedermurach itself and its Weichbild lie at a distance in the neighboring valley, but the Steinbach passes the former Niedermurach train station and finally flows below it from the right and finally east into the Murach .

In the valley floor, the Nabburg – Schönsee railway line , which has now been abandoned, used to run alongside the state road St 2159 . Your route now uses a cycling and hiking trail.

Catchment area

The slopes of the Oberviechtach basin, in particular the moist meadows of the Siebental and the Siechenwiesen, form the largest part of the Steinbach's catchment area of around 16 km².

Tributaries

A number of smaller, unnamed streams flow towards the Steinbach, many of them from the left from the Siechenwiesen and from the northern slopes of the 585 meter high Eichelstein.
