Stephen Ogochukwu Mozia (born August 16, 1993 in Hackensack ) is a Nigerian shot putter and discus thrower of American origin who has been eligible to start for Nigeria since 2014.

Athletic career

Stephen Mozia gained his first international experience at the Junior World Championships 2012 in Barcelona , where he finished tenth in the shot put for the USA with 19.45 m. Two years later he retired for Nigeria at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot with 18.91 m in qualification, as well as at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 17.76 m. At the African Championships in Marrakech he won the bronze medal in the discus throw with 57.11 m and finished fourth in the shot put with 17.65 m. He then came seventh in the shot put at the Athletics Continental Cup in Marrakech.

In 2016 he finished twelfth at the World Indoor Championships in Portland with 19.84 m and won bronze medals in the shot put and the discus at the African Championships in Durban . He also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 18.98 m in qualification . In April 2018 he again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and finished seventh in the discus throw with 59.58 m.

In 2014 Mozia became the Nigerian champion in the shot put and discus. He is a graduate in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in New York .
