Stingray is the title of an American television series from 1985 to 1987 based on an idea by Stephen J. Cannell . It's about a man without a name who just calls himself Ray . People looking for help call him or know where to find him. The Corvette, which gave the series its name, is its trademark.
content
Ray drives a black 1965 Corvette C2 Sting Ray . He used this striking car to advertise in newspapers in Southern California and offered his help: '65 black Stingray - only on an exchange basis with a reasonable participation! Phone: 555-7687. Leave a message. It is obvious that those seeking help know the real meaning of this exchange offer through word of mouth . Ray declines payment. In return, he demands a promise that the person affected will at some point also do him a favor - whatever it may be.
Ray's origins are in the dark. Presumably he received military training and was stationed in Vietnam . It is repeatedly suggested that he used to work for the government. This suggestion that he previously took part in a government program of the secret service comes to the fore in the episode Army Without a Shadow . This episode aims to train students to become professional killers with the help of drugs. The nameless client - played by Robert Vaughn - claims here that he has known Ray for ten years. He tells senior Professor Brainard that Ray doesn't fit the profile and that he created him. In the episode The TV Star, there is further clue to his previous employment for the government. In this episode it is revealed that Stingray is his former alias, that it is coded and not available to anyone.
Ray is a skilled driver and a master of self-defense . He manages perfectly to cover his tracks and disguise his identity. The Corvette z. B. is assigned to the fleet of the Governor of California or that of the President of the United States during license plate reviews. There is no data about him, no income tax card and no gun license. If personal data is found, it later turns out to be manipulated.
Ray has a photographic memory , can portray , speed read , slow his heartbeat through meditation, and is a skilled hacker .
music
The introductory theme song is by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter .
Awards
The series won the Primetime Emmy Award in 1986 in the Best Title Design category and was nominated in 1987 for another in the Sound Editing category with the episode Twins .
