action

Brooklyn 1973: A desperate woman releases a large dinosaur-like egg in front of a church. The nuns of the church experience how a baby hatches out of the egg which has a crystal with it. The woman is later killed in the sewers by a man named Koopa.

1993: The plumbers Mario and Luigi have money worries because they keep losing orders to a large company.

One day they meet Daisy, a young paleontologist . Luigi falls in love with her on the spot and invites her with the help of Mario. Luigi, Daisy, Mario and his girlfriend Daniella have a leisurely meal together, and Daisy says that dinosaur bones were found on a construction site , but the company boss does not allow his construction work to be disrupted by excavations. She also reports that she was abandoned as a child, only with a mysterious stone as an addition, which she still wears around her neck today.

When Luigi accompanies Daisy, they witness how henchmen of the aforementioned company boss damage some pipelines. Luigi and Mario manage to repair the damage, but Daisy is kidnapped by the idiot criminals Iggy and Spike. Mario and Luigi take up the chase and get into a portal behind which they find themselves in a strange city that is overgrown with mushrooms. This city is ruled by the tyrant Koopa. Mario and Luigi end up in a cell where they meet Toad, who explains the story of his world to them. Koopa talks to the Mario Bros. and sends them, along with Toad, to the de-evolution chamber to turn them into Goombas. Toad is transformed, but afterwards the brothers manage to escape.

It turns out that Daisy is actually the daughter of the city's former king and that the stone belongs to a meteorite that hit 65 million years ago. This had not only wiped out the dinosaurs, but placed some of them in a parallel universe in which the dinosaurs evolved into humans. Should the stone be reinserted into the meteorite, the dimensions would be reunited and Koopa could rule both worlds.

But the stone is in the hands of Mario Bros., who not only have to save Daisy, but also have to prevent Koopa from gaining control over both dimensions. The Mario Bros. meet Iggy and Spike in the desert, who unexpectedly help the brothers after Koopa tries to get rid of them. The four later go to a nightclub whose owner has ripped off the stone and are now trying to get the stone. Mario and Luigi manage to escape with the help of the manager of the nightclub. Koopa's wife Lena, however, is in possession of the stone. The brothers get their plumber's suits at Koopa's headquarters and break into the quarters unnoticed. Meanwhile, Lena wants to kill Daisy out of jealousy, but is prevented by Yoshi. Daisy manages to escape with the help of Iggy and Spike and makes contact with her father. The Mario Bros. find out that the giant mushroom that surrounds the city is just trying to help them. The mushroom gives them a baby bomb for their fight against Koopa. Koopa finds out Lena has the stone and meets Mario Bros. and Daisy. Mario frees his girlfriend Daniella and the other girls who were caught by Koopa. It comes to the fight against Koopa, during which Lena is killed by the meteorite. Koopa and Mario are teleported to the real world for a short time. Back in the parallel world, Mario ignites the baby bomb under Koopa and shoots him together with Luigi with the de-evolution beam. Koopa transforms back into a Tyrannosaurus Rex , which then melts into slime. Mario and Luigi are celebrated as heroes and return to their world. For three weeks while Mario, Luigi and Daniella are cooking spaghetti, Daisy storms into the apartment and asks the plumbers for help again. The audience does not find out what it is about.

Reviews

“The $ 50 million roller coaster ride is based on the hugely successful video game from Japanese game giant Nintendo. For viewers under the age limit, the star-studded effects orgy is a lot of fun. But anyone who lies above it will just shake their head. Conclusion: Very flat story in very broad pictures "
