predecessor NES Classic Mini

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System ( SNES Classic Mini for short ) in Europe and Australia, alternatively Super NES Classic Edition in North America, is a stationary game console from Nintendo that was released in September 2017 . The game console is a much more compact new edition of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System from 1991/92, emulated using the latest technology .

It is the successor to the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System released in 2016 .

scope of delivery

In addition to the console itself, the SNES Classic Mini package includes:

  • two Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES controllers with a cable length of about 140  cm (for comparison: the original SNES controller has a cable length of about 230 cm)
  • an HDMI cable
  • a USB cable for power supply

A socket adapter for the USB cable is not included. As with the SNES, the housing and controllers of the European / Australian version will differ from the North American version. In addition, 20 SNES classics are preinstalled on the console as well as the previously unreleased game Star Fox 2 .

Games

The game language is English for all titles, as all games are in the US version. Nintendo decided on this because at the time of the SNES only the American NTSC standard supported 60 Hertz. In Europe there was the PAL standard, which at that time only supported 50 Hertz. Corresponding game instructions are available on the Nintendo website.

reception

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System was largely positively received by the trade press. In particular, the longer controller cable compared to the previous console, the second gamepad included in the scope of delivery and the rewind function were praised.

According to an analysis, the publication of the SNES Mini is decisive for the subsequently falling prices on the used market for the original console and modules from the 1990s.
