Susen Küster (born July 27, 1994 in Wolfen , Saxony-Anhalt ) is a German athlete who specializes in hammer throwing.

Athletic career

Susen Küster started athletics at the age of eight and took a liking to hammer throwing as soon as this discipline was part of the DLV competition program for the girls in accordance with their age group . Until then, she competed in the shot put , discus and javelin throw .

In 2008 Küster won the Central German championship title in hammer throw. Then they were sent to Halle (Saale) for a viewing course .

In 2010 and 2011 she was German U18 winter throwing champion .

In 2012 and 2013 Küster won the title of German U20 winter throwing champion as well as the German U20 champion in 2013. Internationally, she came 14th at the U20 European Championships in Rieti, Italy .

In 2014 and 2015 Küster became German U23 runner-up .

In 2016 she became the German U23 champion .

In 2017 Küster increased her personal best on June 23, 2017 in Halle (Saale) at the HLF throwing meeting to 70.03 m. This placed it in seventh place in the all-time German best list. In Erfurt Küster came 4th at the German Championships . At the HLF throwing meeting in Halle (Saale) on July 21, 2017, she rose again to 71.25 m, not only sitting at the top of the German season ranking and fourth on the all-time German best list, but also fulfilled the standard for the World Championships in London and was therefore nominated by the DLV . At the World Cup in London, she was eliminated in qualification.

In 2018 Küster and the team took 1st place at the Winter Throwing European Cup in Leiria , in the individual she was 14th.

Küster has been part of the perspective squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) since the competitive sports reform and was previously in the B squad .

Club affiliations

Susen Küster started for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen on January 1, 2017 and was previously at SG Union Sandersdorf from 2001 to 2003 , from 2004 to 2005 at SG Chemie Bitterfeld , from 2006 to 2014 for the Halle Athletics Friends , 2015 at SC DHfK Leipzig and 2016 at SV Halle . Her long-time coach is former shot putter René Sack .

  • On July 21, 2017 Küster threw 71.25 m at the HLF throwing meeting. With this distance she was the best German hammer thrower at the end of the year.
