Susi Witt

Susi Witt (born December 9, 1910 in Vienna ; † September 9, 1989 there ) was an Austrian actress .

Life

Witt was born under the real name Susanna Katharina Milica Mathilde Karolina Borotha von Trstenica . She was of Croatian - Slavonian descent. Witt was mainly active as a stage actress . Since 1929 she was engaged in various Viennese theaters, a. a. 1931–1933 and in the 1936/37 season at the Raimund Theater in Vienna . In 1932 she also played as a guest at the Vienna Volkstheater . She also appeared in the Viennese cabaret Die Stachelbeere / Literatur am Naschmarkt in the early 1930son. After her engagement at the Raimundtheater, Witt was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna from the late 1930s, probably from the 1937/38 season ; With the Josefstadt-Ensemble she appeared in the season 1938/39 as Frau von Reimann in the play Wienerinnen by Hermann Bahr at the Deutsches Theater Berlin .

During the Second World War she took on small film roles in productions of the Wien-Film , which were filmed in Austrian ("Ostmark") territory ( Salzburg , Vienna). In the musician biography Who the Gods Love (1942), she played Mozart's sister-in-law Josepha Weber, directed by Karl Hartl .

After the Second World War she was still a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, where she was now mainly employed in the role of " salon lady ". In 1946 the secretary played Miss Wehner in the play The Concert by Hermann Bahr in the alternative quarters of the theater in the Josefstadt in the Vienna Volksoper . She also played Babette in the musical comedy A woman who knows what she wants at the Theater in der Josefstadt (music: Oscar Straus ; text: Grünwald / Steckel), Mme Frappot in Die Liebe der 4 Oberste by Peter Ustinov (both in 1953/54 season), Antonia in Anastasia by Guy Bolton / Marcelle Maurette with Walther Reyer , Helene Thimig and Hilde Krahl as partners, Irma Konkrite in picnic by William Inge with Reyer / Adrienne Gessner / Nicole Heesters / Vilma Degischer / Peter Weck / Guido Wieland as partners and the chambermaid in The Swan by Ferenc Molnár (both in the 1954/55 season). In the 1956/57 season she appeared at the Theater in der Josefstadt as Baroness Pitart-Vignolles in the play The Great ABC (Monsieur Topaze) by Marcel Pagnol .

In the radio recording of the operetta Giuditta , which was made in Vienna in 1942 under the musical direction of Franz Lehár , Witt spoke the German dialogue scenes for the soprano Jarmila Ksirova . In 1951 she worked for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation in the speaking role of managing director in a complete radio recording of the operetta Die stumme Serenade by Erich Wolfgang Korngold .

In 1940 she married the actor Erik Frey . The marriage resulted in two children, the daughter Gabriele Frey and the son Thomas Frey , who later also became an actor like his parents. Susanne Frey, artist name Susi Witt, only survived her husband by about a year and was buried next to him on October 6, 1989 in Döblinger Friedhof (29-104) in Vienna.
