Walther Reyer
Walther Reyer (born September 4, 1922 in Hall in Tirol , † September 5, 1999 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian chamber actor and film actor . In the 1960s he was the Jedermann of the Salzburg Festival .
Live and act
Reyer, born the son of an officer, first studied medicine after graduating from high school . He then took acting lessons from Fred Liewehr and worked as a broadcaster for Radio Innsbruck. In 1947 he made his debut as an actor at the Vorarlberger Landesbühne in Bregenz . In 1948 and 1949 he performed at the Exl-Bühne in Innsbruck , from 1949 to 1952 at the Landestheater Innsbruck , in 1951 and 1952 again at the Exl-Bühne Innsbruck, from 1952 to 1954 he was at the United Theaters in Graz . In 1955 Reyer came to Vienna and played alternately at the Theater in der Josefstadtand the Burgtheater. From 1956 to 1958 he was a member of the Burgtheater ensemble , with which he remained connected until his death. Reyer remained primarily a stage actor throughout his life, who preferred demanding tasks in plays by William Shakespeare , Friedrich Schiller and the Austrian playwrights. After he had embodied the "good companion" at the Salzburg Festival in 1956 and 1957 , he was seen as Jedermann in the title role from 1960 to 1968 .
In the 1950s, Reyer was given officer roles in productions that took place during the time of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy . He was best known as the Hungarian Count Andrassy in the second and third part of the Sissi trilogy. In the war drama The Doctor of Stalingrad , he played a German assistant doctor who fell in love with a Soviet camp doctor . He also impressed as a passionate maharajah in the two-part series by Fritz Lang Der Tiger von Eschnapur and The Indian Tomb . In Claude Chabrol's The Eye of Evil (original title L'oeil du malin ) he played the betrayed husband Andreas Hartmann. Later Reyer was mainly in television films and most recently from 1992 to 1999 as the leading actor in the series Der Bergdoktor .
Private life
Walther Reyer was married four times, the first two times to the actresses Gretl Elb and Erika Remberg . A son comes from his love affair with Käthe Lentsch , a former soubrette , and a daughter from his marriage to Erika Remberg. His marriage to his third wife Claudia resulted in four children, the daughter Cordula is a well-known Austrian model . The actor was most recently married to his wife Angela, who also managed him, since 1992.
He was buried on September 17, 1999 in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 100).
