history

Svatý Jan was built on an old path between Písek and Mühlhausen and has been a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. To the northwest of the settlement lies the Velká Halda mining area, whose silver and lead pits are said to have been built at the instigation of King John of Luxembourg .

The church has been described as desolate since the 16th century. In 1567 the farmer Jan Kotrba had the church rebuilt at his own expense. In 1777 the church was repaired and redesigned, in which the Worliker administrator Franz Fuka took over part of the costs. The church was a branch of the Čerwena parish . Until the middle of the 19th century, St. Johann was subject to the rule of Klingenberg to the Fideikommissherrschaft Worlik including the allodial goods Zalužan, Zbenitz and Bukowan.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Svatý Jan / St. Johann 1850 a settlement of the community Květov in the district administration and judicial district Písek the Milevsko. During this time the first prospecting work was carried out in the old pits of Velká Halda. In the 1890s the St. Johannes von Nepomuk colliery was resumed and sunk down to 65 m. However, the corridor was only approached on five stretches at 20 m, 25.7 m, 36.7 m, 41.7 and 47.7 m depths and about three tons of ore were conveyed, which were processed in Příbram . Due to unprofitability, the company ceased in 1895.

In 1956 an investigation of the polymetallic deposit of Svatý Jan began. 190 m southwest of the old Johannes von Nepomuk shaft, a new shaft 1 was sunk to a depth of 24 m and two deep boreholes were carried out at 135 and 200 m depth. During the prospecting work on galena and silver, however, a corridor with a thickness of 10 cm was only approached with deep borehole 1 at a depth of 109 m. Overall, the investigation, which lasted until 1958, showed that the storage facility consists of corridors with a thickness of approx. 25 to 45 cm with a lead content of 2%, zinc 0.5% and copper 0.04%. In addition, a silver content of 45 to 100 grams per ton of ore was determined. In addition to various heaps, only the ruins of the mine shaft house are reminiscent of mining today .
