Career

Svetlana Zarukayeva took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , where she was eliminated early in the weight class up to 63 kg after three failed attempts over 107 kg in the snatch. She won the silver medal at the 2012 Olympics . In August 2016, the first-placed Kazakh girl Maija Manesa was convicted of doping fraud with stanozolol and the gold medal was revoked. Zarukayeva had subsequently become an Olympic champion. In 2017, the IOC checked Zarukayeva's doping samples using new methods. She tested positive for Turinabol and was disqualified in May 2017 .

At the 2006 World Championships , she became world champion in snatching with 108 kg in the category up to 58 kg, vice world champion in duel with 233 kg and won the bronze medal in jerking with 125 kg. In the same year she was Junior World Champion with 231 kg (106 kg + 125 kg). At the 2007 World Championships , she started in the category up to 63 kg and with 115 kg was vice world champion in snatching behind the Chinese Liu Haixia, who had the same performance but was lighter, as well as being vice world champion in the duel ranking behind the Chinese with 250 kg; the 135 kg achieved in the jerk meant the bronze medal behind the equally powerful but lighter North Korean Pak Hyon-suk .

At the 2009 World Championships, too, she had to give lighter athletes better placements when their performance was equal. In a duel, she was again vice world champion with 246 kg behind the same performance 290 g lighter Kazakh Maija Manesa . Behind Maija Manesa with 141 kg, three lifters achieved 135 kg when pushing - besides Zarukajewa, the Turkish Sibel Şimşek and the Chinese Xijan Guo - so that she was only fourth because of her higher body weight. With 111 kg she achieved the bronze medal in the snatch.

In 2009 Zarukayeva won all three bronze medals at the European Championships in the class up to 63 kg, with a duel result of 231 kg behind the Norwegian Ruth Kasirye with the same level of performance , with 103 kg in the snatch and with 128 kg in the jerk. The world champion Sibel Şimşek and the Armenian Meline Dalusjan achieved the same result in the push with an advantage in body weight. In 2010 she was (kg = 114 + 130 kg) with increase to 244 kg at the European Championships second in the duel behind the same power, but 80g lighter Turk Sibel Şimşek and European champion in the snatch before Simsek, the 110 kg reached.
