Swale is an administrative district with borough status in Kent in England . It is named after the narrow Swale Canal that separates the Isle of Sheppey from the rest of Kent. Most of the district is on the island. The administrative seat is Sittingbourne ; other significant places are Bobbing , Eastchurch , Faversham , Queenborough and Sheerness .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the boroughs Sittingbourne and Queenborough-in-Sheppey, the Urban District Sittingbourne and Milton and the Rural District Swale.
