List of DFB Cup finals
The list of the DFB Cup -Endspiele contains all the finals since the introduction of competition as Tschammerpokal in 1935th
The finals for the DFB-Pokal are usually played at the end of every German football season. In some cases ( 1970 and 1974 ) the finals took place at the beginning of the following season due to the soccer world championships taking place in those years . The exact date has changed again and again over the years. Until 1984 the finals took place in different locations, mostly in Frankfurt am Main , Stuttgart , Hanover or Düsseldorf .
The Olympiastadion in Berlin has been the permanent venue for the finals since 1985 . The fan chant “ Berlin, Berlin, we're going to Berlin! “Has meanwhile become a household word in German football. The current lease between the German Football Association and the State of Berlin runs until 2020. At the beginning of July 2020, the DFB extended the contract until 2025.
After the introduction of the women's DFB Cup in 1981 , until 2009, with one exception in 1983, their finals were played immediately before the men's in the same stadium (from 1985 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium).
So far there has only been a city derby in the cup final: In 1983 1. FC and SC Fortuna , both from Cologne , played against each other in the final. Fittingly, this also took place in Cologne. In 1977 there were two finals after the regular final in Hanover was without a winner and a replay was scheduled two days later at the same location.
