Sweet 7 (German: Süße Sieben ) is the seventh studio album by the British girl group Sugababes . It was released in the UK on March 15, 2010. The publication in Germany took place on March 26, 2010.
Sweet 7 is the first album of the fourth line-up, consisting of Heidi Range , Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen . It is also the first album on which none of the band members co-wrote.
production
Even before work on the new album, the Sugababes signed a contract with Roc Nation, with the label being responsible for A&R and the production of the album. The recordings took place mainly in New York, Los Angeles and London. One of the songs on the album, No More You , was written by Ne-Yo . Keisha Buchanan compared the song with the songs Hate That I Love You and Take a Bow by singer Rihanna . She further stated:
“There is definitely a 'British touch' to the album - we haven't become completely 'American' in our music. I think that gave us fresh energy. What we really wanted was to come back with a completely new sound. "
Line-up change
On September 21, it was announced that Keisha Buchanan had left the band. She later said it wasn't her decision to leave. The former Eurovision Song Contest participant Jade Ewen took her place. Ewen then immediately began re-recording Buchanan's vocal tracks for the album.
criticism
The reviews for the seventh album of the Sugababes were very negative. Above all, critics complained about the lyrics and the change in style, which is mainly aimed at the American market.
“But even the pre- single Get Sexy turned into a disaster ... This is followed by singles number two and three ( Wear My Kiss and About a Girl ), which continue the style adopted with Get Sexy . Because here, too, the listener is presented with faceless mass-produced goods for the dance floor, which have almost nothing to do with the once very charming pop songs of the Sugababes.
Weak melodies on the Euro-Pop-Trash level, paired with thick US beats such as B. in the auto-tune numbers She's a Mess and Miss Everything (fittingly a duet with dancehall icon Sean Kingston) rob the Sugababes of any identity ... The 'old' Sugababes are no longer recognizable and the 'new' Sugababes have a record launched that looked downright ridiculous on the US market. This can only fail with interchangeable songs from the Grabbeltisch. "
