Swetlana Surunowna Kurbatskaja ( Russian Светлана Суруновна Курбатская ; born January 1, 1937 in Ersin , Tuvinian People's Republic ) is a Soviet - Russian biogeographer and university professor .

Life

Kurbatskaya, married to the historian Georgi Nikolajewitsch Kurbatsky (* 1936), graduated from secondary school No. 2 in Kyzyl with a silver medal. She then studied agrochemistry at the Faculty of Biology and Soil Science of Lomonosov University Moscow (MGU). She was then sent to the Tuvinian land management expedition as a soil science engineer .

From 1963–1967 Kurbatskaya was dean of the new Biological- Chemical Faculty of the Kyzyl State Pedagogical Institute (KGPI) and from 1972–1980 dean of the Faculty of Elementary Education at KGPI.

Since 1980 Kurbatskaja has been working at the Department of Geography in the new Geography Department of the KGPI (Tuvan State University since 1995).

After postgraduate at Gleb Vsevolodovich Dobrowolski at the Department of Soil Geography derMGU Kurbatskaja defended her 1990 success dissertation on land cover and biogeochemistry of Gebirgstalsenken Tuva for promotion to the candidate of geographical sciences.

1991 Kurbatskaja director of international Uvs Nuur - Biosphere Research Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

2003 Kurbatskaja was her doctoral dissertation after successful defense on the steppes - ecosystems of Uvs Nuur valley floor to the doctor PhD of geographical sciences. 2001-2013 she was chairman of the Tuva department of the Russian Geographical Society . In 2010 she was appointed professor . She is a member of the Russian- Mongolian Commission for the Administration of Cross-Border Biosphere Areas .
