Svyatoslav "Svi" Mychajljuk ( Ukrainian Святослав Михайлюк , English Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk ; born June 10, 1997 in Cherkassy , Ukraine ) is a Ukrainian basketball player who is currently under contract with the Detroit Pistons in the NBA .

Until 2018 he played for the Jayhawks, the college team of the University of Kansas , in the NCAA . In the 2018 NBA draft , he was selected 47th by the Los Angeles Lakers .

Career

Mychajljuk's career began with BK Cherkassky Mawpy in the Ukraine. In May 2014 he announced that he would play for the University of Kansas in the United States. He was said to be one of the greatest European basketball talents in a long time, along with Dario Šarić . Mychajljuk was not allowed to register for the NBA draft before 2016 due to the age restriction of the North American NBA .

He stayed in Kansas for four years, signed up for the draft after graduating and was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round. In early February 2019 he was transferred to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Reggie Bullock .

National team

In the summer of 2012 he played with the Ukrainian U16 national team at the U16 European Championship. He was named to the All-Star Team after playing an excellent tournament: averaging 25.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

Mychajljuk took part in the 2014 World Basketball Championship with Ukraine . He got 1.8 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists in four games.

Style of play

Mychajljuk has a good mix of athleticism, skill, technique and a flair for the game, which is often the exception for a European player or a player his age.
