The synagogue in Essingen , a local community in the Südliche Weinstrasse district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1820/21.

location

The profaned synagogue is located at Gerämmestraße 48, the former Krämerstraße.

history

The classicist hipped roof building probably replaced an older prayer house.

Since 1933 the synagogue has not been used for church services. In 1937 the synagogue building was sold by the chairman of the Palatinate Jewish community to a local farmer and was therefore spared the November pogrom of 1938 .

The new owner converted the building into a barn . A large entrance gate was broken into the brickwork and some windows were bricked up. The portal inscription is still present above the synagogue entrance. Inside, the women's gallery and the niche for the Torah shrine can still be seen .
