The former synagogue in Messelhausen, a district of the city of Lauda-Königshofen , was built in 1858/59.

history

The inauguration of the synagogue took place on September 16, 1859. Before the synagogue was built, the services were held in a private house bought by Lazarus Faisst. In this building there was a prayer room and a ritual bath in the basement. Today the former prayer room is used as a residential building. A synagogue was built in 1858/59. Wolf Stein bought the building site for the new synagogue and an accompanying garden from Peter Wundling for 550 guilders. Then he made the building site and the garden available to the Jewish community. The new construction of the synagogue at that time cost around 8,400 guilders and was paid for by the Jewish families living there. There was a Jewish bath and a religious school in the synagogue. Services were held in the synagogue until 1930. On July 2, 1931, the Jewish community was dissolved and on January 17, 1933 the synagogue was converted from an innkeeper into an inn "Deutsches Haus".
