A synagogue in Neunkirchen , today a district of Bad Mergentheim in the Main-Tauber district , existed until the 19th century.

history

The first synagogue was in Vorderen Gäßle 2 ( ), behind the former Gasthaus zur Krone. Until 1648 Jews from Bad Mergentheim also attended the church service in Neunkirchen. It was named the last time as the "deserted Jewish schoolhouse". In the second half of the 17th century there was probably no prayer room, which is why they may have visited the synagogue in Bad Mergentheim. A new synagogue was built in 1776 in the "Judenberg" (today Häldenweg 9 , ) behind the Jewish school. It was based on the style of the Protestant-Ansbach, Huguenot church building. After the Neunkirchen congregation was merged with the Mergentheimer in 1832, the Mergentheim synagogue was structurally expanded and embellished. The last service in the Neunkirchen synagogue was held in January 1879. It was sold on January 27, 1879 to a small farmer who used it as a barn with a stable. The former synagogue was demolished in 1971.
