Szabolcs Molnár (born August 19, 1977 in Gheorgheni ) is a former Romanian ice hockey goalkeeper who was under contract at CS Progym Gheorgheni in the Romanian ice hockey league for almost twenty years .

Career

Club

Szabolcs Molnár, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania, began his career at HSC Csíkszereda , for whom he made his debut in the Romanian ice hockey league in the 1996/97 season . In his very first season he became Romanian champions with the traditional Szekler club . In 1999 he moved to CS Progym Gheorgheni from his hometown, where he was in goal for almost twenty years and was Romanian runner-up in 2002. After he only made nine appearances in the 2016/17 season, he ended his career in July 2017.

International

In contrast to other Szeklern who played for Hungary , Molnár was active for his native Romania. In the junior division, he took part in the U18-B European Championships in 1994 and 1995 and the U20-C1 World Championship in 1995 .

He was part of the men's national team for the first time at the B World Championship in 1995 , when he was not used, as was the case at the C World Championships in 1996 and 1998 . He made his first World Cup appearance in 2001 when he and his team were promoted from Division II to Division I. Then he was in the title fights in 2002 , 2004 , 2005 , 2007 and 2009 in Division I in the Romanian squad, where he did not come to use in 2004 and 2005. After relegation in 2007, he returned to Division II at the 2008 World Cup , when he was instrumental in the immediate resurgence with the best catch quota and the lowest average goal against goals of the tournament.

He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournament for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .
