The adult game community Gensungen / Felsberg (short: ESG Gensungen / Felsberg) is a handball game community in the northern Hessian town of Felsberg .

history

On May 24, 1990, HSG Gensungen / Felsberg, which emerged from the handball departments of the clubs TSV Jahn Gensungen and TSV Eintracht Felsberg , was founded. Since July 2013, due to the additional provisions of the HHV to the game rules of the DHB , the club has to wear the abbreviation ESG (adult gaming community). Under the name of JSG Dreiburgenstadt Felsberg, a youth syndicate consisting of TSV Eintracht Böddiger, TSV Eintracht Brunslar, SV Melgershausen, TSV Jahn Gensungen and TSV Eintracht Felsberg was formed, as a result of which the name change became necessary.

At the end of 1921, the foundation stone for handball in the region was laid in Felsberg. In November handball was played there for the first time, as training for the first competition. According to old reports, the first game took place on January 22nd, 1922 in bitter cold and deep snow. There was a narrow 0: 1 defeat against an already well-rehearsed team from the Kassel apprentice home.

As a champion of the German gymnastics district Oberweser, Felsberg took part in the games for the Central German championship in 1927. In the following years, up to the outbreak of the Second World War , Eintracht was always a respected opponent, but championship honors were no longer won.

On November 22, 1945, six months after the end of the war, athletes from Felsberg met to bring the club back to life. Karl Fülling was unanimously elected 1st chairman. Since the name Eintracht could no longer be used according to the regulations of the Allies, the name Sportclub Felsberg was chosen.

The A-Jugend became vice-Nordhessenmeister in the fall of 1964 and produced some talents that would later form a good mix with the traditional team. After unsuccessful attempts in 1957 and 1961, the longed-for goal was finally achieved in 1966: Felsberg became regional handball champion and promoted to the association league. In 1968 the Felsberg field handball team was at the zenith of its success. At the end of the series was the championship of the Verbandsliga Nord, combined with the promotion to the Handball Oberliga Süd-West , the second highest German division. Just in time for the 110th anniversary of Eintracht, in 1973, as the last highlight in field handball, another championship was won. As the season winner of the Association League North, however, you missed the league in the promotion games against TSV Griedel and VfR Wiesbaden.

The rest of Felsberg's field handball history is quickly told. The relegation from the league in 1970 is a negative turning point. In 1974, the previous year’s champion was relegated from the association league to the district class and two years later in 1976 it went down to the district league. In 1978, for the first time, no senior large field team was reported. Only ten years after the greatest success, this meant the end of the traditional field handball in Felsberg.

As an offshoot of the successes in field handball, Felsberg rose to the indoor handball district class in 1969 and was instantly champion and promoted to the association league. After two years, the class could no longer be held and the district league was only a transit station, in 1973 the promotion to the district league followed.

When in the 1980s the sporting development no longer lived up to expectations and at the same time the economic situation at the neighbor Jahn Gensungen became more and more difficult, the time had come for a big step towards a successful future. Discussed in the board of directors as early as 1971 and striving for it again in 1979, the chairmen Meinhard Clobes (TSV Eintracht Felsberg) and Heinz Sänger (TSV Jahn Gensungen) signed a merger agreement on May 24, 1990. The HSG Gensungen / Felsberg was founded and a new chapter in the Felsberg handball history was opened.

The handball department (then still field handball) was founded in 1925. The first game against Eintracht Felsberg's 2nd team rose on December 26, 1925. The handball department was established by 1940 and was able to celebrate its first successes (Gaume Championship 1929, group winner of the newly founded district class in 1933, and North Hesse champions in 1940). After the Second World War, the association was re-established on November 10, 1945 under the name “Grün-Weiß Gensungen”.

TSV Jahn Gensungen celebrated its greatest successes in the 1970s and 1980s. In the 1978/79 season by her longtime trainer played Burkhart Prince of talents formed team, meanwhile, still during the season 1977/78 verpflichtetem successor, the player-coach Peter Barthelmey , after the rise of games against TSV Erbach from the Saarland and the Reinickendorfer foxes from Berlin even in the Bundesliga . In addition to Franz Wagner , Boban Selec, Jörg Anacker and Frank Döring, the players also included the future national player and HSG coach Günter Böttcher . The team, again under Burkhard Prinz in the following season, had to accept relegation to the Regionalliga Südwest after just one year.

After becoming Southwest German champions in 1981, the team was promoted to the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga South , in which they played until 1986.

From 1994 the HSG embarked on a new course in order to build on the past. A team was built up under Günter Böttcher as coach. In 1996 the HSG rose to the regional league as Hessen champions. The following year the HSG became Southwest German champions and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga. After the relegation in the first second division season, the HSG established themselves in the top half of the table. The fourth place in the table in 1999/2000 meant the best performance so far in the 2nd Bundesliga. It was not until 2004/05 that Gensungen closed again in the lower half of the table, also a year later. In the 2006/07 season, the HSG only barely managed to stay in league, and in 2007/08 they entered the 15th year of the second class, which was also the last year in this class for the time being: the HSG rose 5 points to 17th. Place as bottom of the table.

In the 2008/2009 season she was third in the Regionalliga Südwest. After a flawless first half of the season with 30: 0 points, a setback followed in the second half of the season. In the end, the team had 46:14 points and finished in 3rd place. In the 2009/10 season she finished 2nd in the table and qualified for the new 3rd Bundesliga, in which she finished 3rd in the 2010/11 Eastern season. In the next year, the HSG did not get beyond a midfield position. In 2011/12 was 9th place. The 2012/13 season was the most difficult for the HSG so far. The team played the whole season to stay up and had the chance to stay up against their table neighbor Auerbach on the last match day. The game ended at 30:30 and the HSG was relegated. The newly founded ESG then started the 2013/14 season in the Oberliga Hessen.

ESG Gensungen / Felsberg

Under the new name ESG Gensungen / Felsberg you first had to gain a foothold in the unknown division. In the first four seasons (2013/14 - 2016/17) there was no more than a midfield placement: it was 6-8 place in the final table. From the 2017/18 season onwards, the team was able to improve steadily. After a 5th place (2017/18) and a 3rd place (2018/19), the promotion to the 3rd division was celebrated after the 2019/20 season. On the 12th matchday, the championship lead was conquered with a home win against MT Melsungen 2 and was not given up until the 20th matchday, on which the season was ended due to the corona epidemic. The season ended after 19 games with 31: 7 points.

In the 2020/21 season, ESG will start in the 3rd division north-west.
