Taddeo Luigi Dal Verme (born February 16, 1641 in Piacenza , † January 12, 1717 in Ferrara ) was an Italian Catholic cardinal and bishop .

biography

Taddeo was born on February 16, 1641 in Piacenza and baptized the following day. He was the son of Giovanni Maria Dal Verme, Count of Sanguinetto , and Ottavia Meli-Lupi di Soragna, Marchesa of Soragna . He was also the nephew of Cardinal Savio Mellini and was related to Cardinals Girolamo Farnese and Mario Alberizzi .

At the age of 9, in 1650, he received the tonsure with the intention of becoming a priest, and in 1664 he renounced the birthright. In the same year he went to Rome and accompanied the apostolic nuncio Mario Alberizzi as secretary to Vienna. After attending La Sapienza University in Rome , he received his doctorate here on January 26, 1688 in utroque iure .

After ordination, he became prefect of the Episcopal Palace of Fano . Although he had repeatedly refused the promotion to the episcopal see of this city, repeatedly proposed by the Duke of Parma , he was received by Pope Innocent XI. elected on December 20, 1688 and forced to take possession of this bishopric.

On December 12, 1695 he was appointed cardinal priest in the consistory . He received this office with a special dispensation because he had his uncle in the Holy College of Cardinals . On January 2, 1696 he received the purple and the titular church of Sant'Alessio . From that date he was transferred to Imola . He took part in the conclave of 1700 , in which Pope Clement XI. was chosen.

On March 14, 1702 he was promoted to the Diocese of Ferrara .

He died in the city on January 12, 1717. After the public laying out in the cathedral of Ferrara , the burial took place with the other bishops of this seat.
