Tadla-Azilal ( Arabic تادلة أزيلال, Central Atlas Tamazight ⵜⴰⴷⵍⴰ ⴰⵥⵉⵍⴰⵍ ) was one of the 16 regions of Morocco until the administrative reform of 2015 and is located in the center of the kingdom. In the area of Tadla-Azilal 1,450,519 people (2004 census) lived on a total area of 17,125 km². For 2011 the number of residents was calculated at 1,573,957.
The capital of the region was Beni-Mellal . Larger cities are Fkih Ben Salah , Kasba Tadla , Boujad , Azilal and Demnate .
The region consisted of the following provinces:
- Azilal
- Béni Mellal
- Fquih Ben Salah (from 2009)
Geographical location
The province lay on the northern cape of the High Atlas . The highest point is the Jbel Azourki , with a height of 3677 m one of the highest mountains in Morocco. South of Azilal lies the fertile high valley Aït Bougoumez , whose inhabitants have developed a sustainable management system for the scarce ecological resources.
