Diary of a Nymphomaniac is a Spanish erotic - drama from the year 2008 . The film adaptation is based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Valérie Tasso .

action

On the recommendation of her beloved grandmother Marie Tasso, Valérie begins to keep a diary of her sexual experiences. She had her first time with young Edouard on July 17, 1993 at 2 a.m. at the age of 15 during the summer vacation. Although she felt nothing about it and was rather ashamed, she also realized that she was missing something, so she returned to him to sleep with him as often as possible. In doing so, she began to discover how to use her body as a means of communication.

Now she lives in Barcelona 14 years later and has no close relationships with the exception of her grandmother Marie Tasso and her best friend Sonia. Rather, she has regular sexual intercourse with changing male acquaintances. She lets herself be seduced by the attractive Muslim Hassan and cultivates a sexual relationship with Alex. However, when he becomes less and less able to cope with her sexual appetite, he separates from her. Although she always defended her single existence towards Sonia, she suddenly felt loneliness and silence, which she can only fill with wild sex with a stranger on the sidewalk. When she loses her job, her grandmother also falls ill. She travels to her, confesses her nymphomania to her and is allowed to listen to the well-intentioned advice to accept yourself, not bend for anyone and never miss anything in life that you want. Finally, Marie Tasso dies and Valérie loses with her the only person who ever understood her.

After an interview with Jaime, he invites her to dinner. Even though she didn't get the job, he is very interested in her. She falls in love with him too. They both have an interesting time together. To the surprise of Valéries, completely without sex. Rather, she enjoys her feelings and sees herself as a normal woman for the first time. It takes a long time for them to sleep together, which turns into a brief two-minute disappointment. Even so, she doesn't want to wake up from her dream, so she focuses on love. He showered her with gifts and with him she just didn't have to think about sex with other men anymore. When she soon finds a job with the gay Harry's fashion company, Jaime suddenly becomes jealous and her dream turns into a nightmare. Between all the aggressive jealousies, he shows his nice and warm manner again and again, whereby he treats Valérie worse and worse. After he apologized to her several times and finally humiliated her again, she aborts her child and moves back to her apartment completely in debt. Emotionally at the end of the day, only Sonia stands by her.

Finally, Valérie realizes that she hasn't had an orgasm in months and starts working in a brothel. Compared to most prostitutes, she hardly has any problems with all the sex and the different men. She enjoys the variety and falls in love with the young Italian Giovanni, who also shows her his love. But Pedro, another regular of hers, really wants her to fall in love with him. He would do anything for her. She just doesn't want him to rap her after she is rejected. Then she wants to stop. Because Giovanni ordered her for himself and a friend, together with the prostitute Mae, she went to his room. But to her surprise, he takes Mae and just lets her go. When finally the prostitute Cindy dies, Valérie really wants to quit. Only she has one last guest with the disabled Íñigo. The paralyzed man tells her to live as intensely as possible every day. So she finally regains enough strength, stops working as a prostitute, thanks her best friend Sonia for everything she has done for her and finally decides to follow her grandmother's advice again, never to go without anything in life, what you want yourself.

background

The film celebrated its world premiere when it was released in Spanish cinemas on October 17th, 2008. It was published in German on August 16, 2012 on DVD and April 28, 2013 on Blu-ray Disc . The German-language television first broadcast was on May 15, 2013 on Tele 5 .

Because the movie poster showed a bare thigh, stomach and black lingerie, the city transport companies of Madrid refused to hang them up at their bus stops because of “dubious legality” and “free of charge”. Director Molina spoke of censorship, the leading actress Fabra said that the "problem was politicized and thus created enough attention" for a scandal.

criticism

"Erotic film of the more serious kind that tells a story in addition to tastefully staged bedroom scenes and can rely on a certain acting talent."

“After the autobiographical bestseller by French-Spanish author Valérie Tasso [...] first published in 2003, director Christian Molina [...] staged this erotic film [...] very freely, but at the end it was also very kitschy. The attractive Spaniard Belén Fabra [...] makes the greatest effort as the title hero, but even a lot of bare skin cannot hide the staged breaks and the sometimes clichéd figure drawings. "

"Closer to ' Emmanuelle ' than to ' Belle de Jour ', the series of copulations captivates with its freedom of movement, high-gloss optics and pregnant swirls."
