Taken Away (Original: Gone in a Heartbeat ) is an American thriller from the director Jerry Jameson from 1996. The TV film is based on a true story about two young men kidnapping a woman with heart disease in order to get a ransom from her Blackmail husband.

The fictional small town of Rocky Point in the US state of Colorado . Jan and Mark Hale lead happy lives and run a thriving restaurant. The couple are considered generous. You finance u. a. a local sporting event that brings them into the focus of regional reporting. One day Jan suddenly suffers a heart attack . Rest and avoidance of stress now determine everyday life. With the help of her faithful husband, she comes to terms with the unfamiliar situation.

The renowned student Michael Galler leads a conservative life, but like his best friend David suffers from a lack of money. That is why he is angry when a colleague friend does not bring him back a CD he has borrowed. In good company, Michael decides with David and a third companion - he ends his criminal career immediately afterwards - to break into the said colleague in order to regain the aforementioned sound carrier. During the raid, in addition to cash and some CDs, a firearm is stolen, which is later sold at a profit to a dubious fence . After a successful transaction, the stranger offers the two of them another deal if they can bring him 100,000 US dollars within three weeks. The fence promises his interested audience a profit sharing of one million dollars. However, as they lack sufficient financial means, Michael plans a non-violent kidnapping with extensive ransom extortion.

A little later, Jan and her vehicle are dragged by masked Michael into a snowy forest area, where her hands and feet are handcuffed. With a warming blanket and vital medicines, the two crooks leave the heart-sick Jan indifferent to her fate. The victim manages to get out of the car, but an upcoming snowstorm and the shackles make it impossible to escape and force them to stay in the protective car. After the kidnapping, Mark is informed by the two friends and blackmailed with a ransom demand. Contrary to the instructions of the kidnappers, however, Mark turned to the police, who in turn contacted the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the responsible authority in Denver , for help . Special Agent Gray is dispatched. The experienced agent asks Mark not to respond to the kidnappers' demands, at the same time he tries to set a trap for the as yet unknown perpetrators. Three agreed cash transfers fail. Michael and David get nervous, gradually lose control and make the crucial mistake at the end of the film. The special forces and the police present ultimately provide the two kidnappers. Jan is saved.

Michael and David plead guilty to the kidnapping. Ringleader Michael is sentenced for eight years, his friend David only for three years, although the remaining sentence is suspended.
